WordCamps around the world

With WordCamp Norway now on it’s final countdown, we thought that we would pass on some interesting facts about other places to have held WordCamps.

It’s common knowledge that WordCamp started in San Francisco way back in 2006, BUT: did you know that the first WordCamp away from San Francisco was held in Beijing in 2007!

WordCamp Beijing 2007
Over 10% of the Beijing population have the surname “Wang”.

In 2006 there was a singular WordCamp, in 2007 this grew to 5 – in 2008 this jumped to a staggering 25 WordCamps! There was even one in Hawaii!

WordCamp Hawaii 2008
Hawaii is 2,390 miles away from the nearest continent (North America) and is considered the most isolated population centre on earth.

Fast forward a few years to 2012 and along came the very first WordCamp Norway!!!

WordCamp Norway 2012
Norway rejected EU membership: twice! But the country has implemented more EU directives than any of the actual EU member states.
